There is a wealth of resources available on-line to help guide you in your search for the right school for your child. As for myself, once I find out we are moving to a new location, I begin to do research on-line on the educational system in the state and schools in the area we are looking to move. Once I get an idea of where I want to focus, I begin to hone in my search on several schools. An on-line resource that has served me very well is GreatSchools.org. It provides you with a rating system, which will help you compare schools. I have also used Department of Education websites for the state to give me additional information. Another resource that is often overlooked is the PTO or PTA for the school you are interested in for your child. While taking a tour of the school, I suggest you ask for the contact details of the PTA or PTO President and give him or her a call. This is a great way to get a parent’s perspective on the school. It will also give you an idea of parental involvement. It is my experience that the more parental involvement the school has, the more successful the school is.
