If you are fortunate to have family or friends who can help you during a move, definitely take them up on their offer. The important thing to keep in mind is that you want to use your help strategically. You have a support network built in your current location. Therefore, use their help to get you prepared for your departure. Have them help you with child and/or pet care so you can have uninterrupted time to get things done. They can help you with packing, sorting and donating.
If you have family from out of town who want to come and help you, I suggest you have them come help you at your new location. This is a valuable resource to have. When you arrive in your new location, it will take time to build a support network. Therefore, you will not have easy access to help. This is a great time to take advantage of their offer. Keep in mind that moving is stressful. So the people you want to help you during this stressful time are friends and family, who will participate and not cause you additional stress. It is okay to turn down the offer of help, if it is going to cause you more stress with them there.
