The Black Forest Fire has impacted so many lives. So far 509 homes have been lost and two people have died. It is surreal to think that the Black Forest Fire, the largest in Colorado history was so close to us. It will be a long time before those affected will return back to normalcy. Many of these families are displaced and now have to rely on services and the kindness of strangers. As with all of you, my heart is heavy for all of those who have lost so much.
However, there is one story that I just can’t get out of my mind. This little boy, who lost his dad in the line of duty with the Colorado Springs Police Department lost his precious police patch collection, which he started after his father’s death. Words can’t describe how I feel about this. So, I felt the way I could help was to get the word out. My dad was a cop and I understand the risk that these courageous men and women face everyday.
Police officers close to the family are trying to replace his collection that he lost in the Black Forest Fire. If you can help, please send your police department patches to Adam Romine of the Colorado Springs Police Dept. 415 E. Pikes Peak Ave, Suite 200, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
